Here are answers to some of the frequently asked questions from prospective students:

1. Is the Course specific to Cyber Laws in India ?

The Certificate/Diploma courses in Cyber Laws will cover the principles of Cyber Laws in general. However, the course covers Information Technology Act 2000 (As amended by ITAA 2008) in detail and to that extent it is India specific. IPR laws are however universal. There is also a chapter on some foreign laws particularly those related to compliance such as HIPAA and Data Protection Act. Most other chapters are not India specific.

2. Will I be disqualified if I cannot complete the Course “in time” ?

The duration of the Courses are indicated based on a pre programmed schedule. However, unlike a Normal course which runs in batches and culminates in a simultaneous examination, all the online courses are flexible in time.

According to the Coaching plan, for Courses, lesson modules will initially be despatched in fortnightly intervals. Students are expected to normally return the assignments if any at the end of the lessons during the following fortnight. If the answers for two successive fortnights are not received, the instructor may hold back the despatch of the subsequent lesson to give more time for the student to respond to the earlier lessons. The student can also take a more leisured schedule if he so desires. There will be no disqualification for delayed submission of feedback or for taking a break to meet other commitments of the student.

The online programmes would be run on one to one basis and completely flexible as regards the time schedule Each student can take the course at his own speed. He can also take occasional breaks during other commitments such as examinations.

The Off-line programme would however be run on batch mode.

3. What is the Criteria for Issue of Certificates?

There will be an “Examination” with or without an offline component. Details will be communicated to the students along with the prospectus. All students who complete the course would be issued a “Certificate”. However, special “Merit Certificates” would be issued only to those who are considered eligible for the same based on the quality of the answers.

Off-line courses will have a written examination.

4. Is there any Concession in fees to ” Students” ?

For students sponsored by Educational institutions, and faculty members of Law Colleges, a concession of 25 % in the indicated fees would be allowed subject to the submission of suitable certificate of identity.

5. Can the fees be paid in Instalments?

No.

6. Will there be “Contact” programmes?

The Courses are designed as an ” Online education Center”. Within this frame work, interactivity would be built in through periodical “Chat” sessions when required. Since students would pursue their individual time schedules for the course, most of the interaction would be on one to one basis.

Presently, the lesson distribution would be through e-mails. This will be beneficial to users of low bandwidth and expensive Internet connections. In due course, lessons would be provided with multimedia delivery over the Net and this would improve the interactivity.

Students who have opted for print materials will be sent printed copies of lessons in batches.

If there are groups of 5 or more students, special online sessions for virtual lectures would be considered.

Naavi will schedule some contact video sessions from time to time as may be required.

7. Will there be “Recognition” for the Course in my “Career”?

Cyberlawcollege.com is a pioneering venture in the field of Cyber Law Education in India. Even on the global arena, there are not many such online educational institutions. As on date therefore the “Certificate Course in Cyber Laws” is being presented more as a “Self Development” Course.

The management believes that the real “Recognition” will have to flow from the industry after perceiving the benefits of such education to their employees.

There will also be career career opportunities in the off-line Cyber Law teaching centers that are bound to come up at all Law Colleges as well as all E-Commerce training institutes. If some body is otherwise qualified for the post, they would definitely be considered premium catches if they also have a formal “Certificate in Cyber Laws”. Career opportunities are therefore considered good for “Cyber Law Specialists”.

9. How Frequently will the course contents be updated?

Like any technology course, Cyber Law is an evolving law and changes are inevitable. Updating of the Course material will therefore be a continuous process . Just as every lecture of a good teacher would be an improvement over the previous one, Cyber law college would also strive to improve its contents with every opportunity. E-Mail lists and Message Boards along with online Reference materials will fill up the gap with those who might have missed the developments.

10. Is the fee “Refundable” if I discontinue the Course?

No. The fee is not refundable.

11. I am living abroad. How should I make the payment?

As per the foreign exchange regulations in India, to which the site would be bound, if the service is bought by a person living abroad, the payment has to be received in foreign exchange.

Payment can be made online through credit cards for the INR equivalent as mentioned in the prospectus.

12. I have already sent my registration. I have not received any communication back. Why?

We have come across a few cases where the mails sent to the address given have bounced back because of mail boxes being full or the address being wrong. In such cases the college will have no opportunity to reply back. All e-mails received so far has been replied immediately and if any person has not received the reply it means that the mail might have bounced. 13. I have just passed +2. Which course should I take?

Diploma Course is meant for students of Law or E-Commerce and other disciplines who would eventually be dealing with Cyber Law or E-Business in their respective areas of basic study. An ideal starting point would be the final year of graduation or after graduation. However students may take a view based on their specific requirements. They can start with the basic awareness course namely Certificate Course in Cyber Laws for Netizens.

14. I have no knowledge of Laws. Can I cope with the Course?

The courses don’t presume any prior knowledge of law. However, students may use the interactive sessions with the faculty to clear their doubts if any.

15. What is the difference between the Virtual Course and the offline Course in association with a Law College ?

Cyber Law College has an association with a few Law colleges, according to which a “Certificate Course in Cyber Laws by …. Law College in Association with Cyber Law College” is being conducted. This is a class room based course. Classes are not however held every day but held once in a fortnight at the college premises. The syllabus and other details may be obtained in the prospectus at the relevant institution. is same as the Virtual course. The Certificates on successful completion of an examination will be issued jointly by the Law College and Cyber Law College.

16. What is “External Student Registration”?

In order to provide an opportunity for virtual course students to test their knowledge on par with the students of the offline course, an option is provided to them to register as “External Students” to the course conducted in specific colleges. Such students will appear for the Examination along with the students of the offline course and on successful completion, will be issued a certificate jointly by Cyber Law College and the Law College, Bangalore. Please check availability of this facility .

17. Is the Diploma Course in Cyber Laws available in an offline Mode?

At present, only the Certificate course in Cyber Laws is available as an offline course. “Diploma in Cyber Laws” is not available in offline mode. Upon completion of suitable association with a technology institution, it is proposed to offer this course in an offline mode.

18. How can I upgrade to Diploma Course after completing the Certificate Courses?

There are three component credit courses namely “Certificate in Digital Contracts and Digital Signature”, Certificate in Cyber Crimes” and “Certificate in Cyber Law Compliance”. Students can complete these courses separately and they are considered as components of the Diploma Course. On completion of all these three modules students can claim the certificate for the Diploma Course.

What is Cyber Law?

All laws related to Information Assets can be classified as Cyber Laws. Cyber Laws apply to transactions in Cyber Space created by Computers. It encompasses Information Technology Act 2000, as well as Intellectual Property Laws such as Patents, Trademarks and Copyright applicable to Electronic documents.

What careers with the Cyber Law ?

There are different streams of career for those who learn Cyber Law. If they are Lawyers or otherwise engaged in Corporate Advisory Services such as the Company Secretaries and Chartered Accountants, then the knowledge of Cyber Laws provide them an opportunity to enhance the value of their professional service. They will command a greater demand and remuneration. Some of them may be retained by Companies and others can be independent professional consultants.

The second stream is a career as “Techno Legal Consultants” who can assist Police in investigation of Cyber Crimes, Undertake “Cyber Law Compliance Audit” of Companies and otherwise be engaged as “Domain Experts” in IT Companies producing Security products.

The third stream is a career in “Cyber Forensics”. This requires a high degree of technical knowledge fortified with Cyber Law knowledge.

The fourth stream is a career in “Information Security Product development” where software developers may focus on products and services in the area of information security.

The fifth stream is a career in “Cyber Security Management”. This is open to business management students who can look at “Information Security” as a service or product.

It may be noted that basically “Cyber Law” is an area of specialization and has to be used to build on a basic qualification which may be an LLB degree or a BE or MBA degree.

Where is Cyber Law Knowledge applied ?

The application is universal. Wherever documents are prepared using Computer, the Cyber Law becomes applicable. For example, most of the financial transactions in India in Banks are undertaken with electronic documents. Hence every Banking law has Cyber Law implication. SMS transactions, Stock Market transactions etc also attract provisions of Cyber Law. Maintenance of websites also attract Cyber Laws.

What and where demands of cyber law in market from job point of view?

With the transformation of the business world to a paper less, computer based world, it is easier to say that the only demand that will be there for legal and security professionals in future will be for those with Cyber Law knowledge. According to a Nasscom-IDC study, the demand for Information Security aware professionals is 5 times more than others. This should give an indication. The market is under development and Companies are just starting to realize the importance of Cyber Law Professionals.

Does Cyber Law College provide job assistance (placement) after completion of course?

Not on Assurance basis. But efforts are being put in this direction.

What utilities of cyber law without law background (simple graduation).

As already indicated, professionals who either are responsible for Information Assets or manage Information Assets require a knowledge of Cyber Laws. Production of Software itself will in future require Cyber Law Compliance. E-Governance projects need to be Cyber Law Compliant. Police require assistance of Cyber Law specialists in investigations. While a lawyer can practice in a Court in Cyber Law cases, there are many other audit and security related functions which can be undertaken by others.

Which is the basic course to start with?

Cyber Law College offers “Diploma in Cyber Laws” as the flagship course. Professionals may take up this course straight away. Cyber Law College also offers a primer course called “Certificate Course in Cyber Laws for Netizens” (CCLN) which is meant as a basic awareness course. Those who want niche specialization in “Cyber Crimes”, “Certificate Course in Cyber Crime Laws” can be considered. Those who want to specialize only in compliance related laws, “Certificate Course in Cyber Law Compliance” could be considered. “Certificate Course in Digital Contracts and Digital Signatures” is a gneral requirement which goes with both the other two modules.

What are the other courses can be done (after completing Basic Course) to give a stability to my career in this field?

Students who are interested in further studies may take up complementary courses in Cyber Security such as CISA or CISSP which provide them some additional knowledge on Cyber Security. These will help them in being “Information Security Auditors”.

What are the career prospects in this field?

With increasing number of Cyber Crimes, the wide scope of Cyber Laws as per Information Technology Act 2000 (with amendments in 2008), increased recognition of legal compliance as a necessary business ingredient for IT companies, Cyber Law Aware professionals have an excellent prospect ahead of them.
