Venkatesh D Pastay- A Profile.
1. Sri Venkatesh D. Pastay completed his graduate commerce education from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL), Whitefield, Bangalore. Later completed his graduate and master degrees in law from Karnataka University. He has practicing as an advocate before various courts,commissions and authorities in India since 1995. He practiced law with a wellknown law firm M/s Holla and Holla, Patil and Nettar, (a law firm listed in Asia Legal 500) for nearly 4 years. During the course of his practice he has given several legal opinions, drafted several contracts and pleadings at Trial Court and High Court level. He has also appeared and argued in different matters before the Civil Courts and High Court, involving variety of legal issues. During the nascent stage of evolution of Cyber Law in India, he contributed to the same, by drafting the pleadings and arguing the matter that became one of the landmark cases in Indian legal history, on the point of application of conventional legal principles to the Cyber space. The said case is related to Internet Domain Name disputes, which ultimately led to, the laying down of the law by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Sify Vs. Siffynet Solutions Pvt Ltd.
2. In 2005 he set up his office- Pastay Law and apart from other legal work has concentrated on non-litigation commercial legal work involving providing of legal consultancy in Cyber Law and IPR Law matters, drafting of patent, design and copyright applications, providing of due diligence service in real estate matters.
3. Apart from the professional work, he is also associated with several law colleges and has delivered law lectures. He is keenly interested in exploring the various dimensions of Cyber law and Intellectual property law in professional and academic spheres. He is also interested in studying and researching the judicial process of the apex judiciary and has a flair to do legal research. He has participated in various national and international seminars/conferences such as the UGC Refresher course in Law & Economics organized by National Law School of India University, Bangalore in 2000 and the international conference organized by Computer Law Association (now known as I- Tech Law Association) on legal issues related to computers, cyber space, IPR, outsourcing etc. Apart from being a member of the Karnataka State Bar Council he is also a member of the International Institute of Information Technology Law. He is the founder secretary of the Digital Society Foundation, Bangalore.
